Defining and measuring learning outcomes in higher education

During this conference the definition and meassurement of Learning Outcomes were discussed. Learning Outcomes represent the shift from an input oriented to an outcome oriented view and concept of academic teaching, learning and assessment. This new approach causes not only a change of view in the institutions themselves but also in the external quality assurance. The actual state of knowledge of and the practical experience with the development and the implementation of learning outcomes are admittedly different in the various countries.
The conference offers an opportunity to discuss advantages but also disadvantages of this outcome approach with participants from over thirty countries and four continents.
