Madrid is the capital and largest city of Spain. It is situated in the middle of the country. The population of the city is roughly 3.3 million and the entire population of the Madrid metropolitan area is calculated to be 6.271 million. It is the third largest city by population in the European Union, after London and Berlin. Madrid is the most touristic city of Spain, the fourth-most touristic of the continent, and it is the 10th most livable city in the world.
PRACTICAL INFORMATION ABOUT MADRID:
Transportation options from the airport Madrid-Barajas to city centre and Venue are:
• By Underground: The Metro is the fastest, most efficient and most affordable way to move around in Madrid. The airport metro is Line 8 and it is the quickest way to get to Nuevos Ministerios. The airport has two metro stations: “Aeropuerto T4” that serves Terminal 4, and “Aeropuerto T1-T2-T3” that serves the remaining terminals. The Line 8, arrives in T4 in less than 20 minutes and in only 12 minutes to the rest of terminals from Nuevos Ministerios.
Fares: Price for one way is 1,50 € and for the airport Line there is a supplement of 1,50€, total 3 €. There is a Tourist travel pass for the city center ZONE A.
Fares for ZONE A:
1 day: 6 €; 2 days: 10 €; 3 days: 13 €; 5 days: 19 € and 7 days: 25 €.
Underground information, Metro
• By Taxi: The fare from Barajas airport to the centre of Madrid is generally between 30 and 35 euros (including airport supplement from/to airport 5.50 €) and it will take you from Terminals to city center in 30 minutes aprox. (it deppends on traffic).
• By Bus: The Airport Express Bus covers the line from/to the Airport in all terminals. Tickets cost 4 euros each, and are purchased on the bus itself. The nearest stop to the city center is Plaza de Cibeles (second stop), and the last stop will take you to Atocha train station (third stop in the south of city center). The trip takes approx. 30-35 minutes (it depends on traffic). There is a bus every 15 minutes during the day (6am to 11.30pm) and every 35 minutes at night (11.30pm to 6am). Bus link
